Stingrays YMCA swim team competes at state meet

Members of the Southern Prairie YMCA Stingrays Swim Team recently competed at the 2017 Iowa YMCA State Championship Swim Meet in Marshalltown March 4-5.

Individuals and teams advanced to the Championship Swim Meet by qualifying at the Sectional Swim Meet held in Ottumwa on Sunday, Feb. 12.

One individual from the Stingrays Swim Team, Ryann Witt, qualified in the girls 8 and under 25-yard Backstroke with a qualifying time of 21.95 seconds. At the state meet she swam 22.56 seconds for 13th place. One relay team, the boys 11-12 100 yard freestyle, qualified with a time of 2:52.27. At state, the team of Noah Adams, Samuel Duncan, Brighton Regan and Damien Flores, swam 2:45.46, good for 19th place.

The Southern Prairie YMCA Stingrays have been coached by Kristie Terlizzi and Jena Proffitt. Twenty kids were out this season. At sections they entered one relay and 48 individual events.
