Eldon Elbert Still, 80, of Mount Ayr died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at Mount Ayr Health Care Center in Mount Ayr.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, at Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., in Mount Ayr. The Rev. Barton Shields will officiate the service. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr. Open visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, at the funeral home. Eldon Elbert Still, son of Mary Ellen Parker and Leonard L. Still, was born July 10, 1936, on a farm north of Mount Ayr. Eldon attended Caledonia Country School, graduating eighth grade. Eldon then began his career as a farmer, helping on the family farm.
On April 11, 1960, Eldon married Frances “Anne” Garrity in Winterset. He and Anne made their home on a farm south of Kellerton and two children were born, Brad Eldon and Beth Anne. Eldon and Anne divorced in 1984.
On Aug. 2, 1986, Eldon married Janice “Jan” Stringham Simpson at Kellerton United Methodist Church. With this union, he gained sons, Randy and Tim.
Eldon was a lifelong farmer until the time he and Jan moved to town in 1994. He also drove the school bus from 1960-1977, served on Grand Valley School Board, Ringgold County Board of Supervisors and Mount Ayr City Council many years.
Eldon moved to Mount Ayr Health Care Center in September 2015.
Eldon is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jan of Mount Ayr; son Brad (Christy) Still of Kellerton; daughter Beth (Mike) of Marion; step-son Randy (Athena) Simpson of Franklin, Tennessee; step-daughter-in-law Chris Simpson of Corning; four grandsons, one granddaughter, five step-grandsons and two step-granddaughters, Brandon Still and Brock (Makenzie) Still of Mount Ayr, Brian (Tessa) Still of Kellerton, Dalton (Rachel) Combs of Marion, Micaela Combs of Ames, Adam (Lauren) Simpson of Spring Hill, Tennessee, Jacob (Hilary Chittom) and Isaac of Franklin,Tennessee, Dustin Surrell of Jefferson City, Missouri, Brandi Simpson of Corning, Trevor Gooding of Mount Ayr and Macey Bowen of Kellerton; two great-granddaughters and one more expected in August 2017, two great-step-granddaughters and two great-step-grandsons, Kambreigh and Aspen Still of Mount Ayr and baby-to-be Combs of Marion, Grasye, Kailey and Brycen Surrell of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Ridge Simpson of Spring Hill, Tennessee; sister Joyce Johnson; sister-in-law Ethel Still; brother Ed (Glenda) of Mount Ayr and many extended family and friends.
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents; step-son Tim Simpson; step-granddaughter Charlcey Bowen and sisters and brothers, Emma Murphy, Ethel (Cliff) Doolittle, Leucena (Wilbur) Kobbe, Guy, Ray (Vesta), Lee and George.
