Ronald L. Cain, 78, of Creston died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Private services will be held at a later date. Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, in Creston has been entrusted with assisting with arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.

Ronald Larry Cain, son of George William Cain and Alma Marie (Maxwell) Cain, was born Sept. 22, 1938, in Thurman. He graduated May 21, 1956, from Thurman High School. Ron graduated June 1, 1961, from Northwest Missouri State University and Aug. 19, 1966, from University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming, with a Masters degree in education.

In 1961, Ron married Etta Lee Gray. They divorced in 1972. They had two children, Chris and Brent. Ron taught mathematics four years from 1961 to 1965 at Malvern High School in Malvern and then moved to Creston to take a mathematics teaching position at Southwestern Community College.

On April 3, 1998, Ron married Patricia (Ryan) Loew in Council Bluffs. They lived and worked in Creston, where Ron continued to teach mathematics at SWCC, retiring in 1998 after 32 years of teaching.

Ron was a member of Creston Elks Lodge and Creston Model Railroad Club. He pitched for the Northwest Missouri State University baseball team and helped carve the life-sized bear located at McKinley Park in Creston.

Ron is survived by his wife Pat Cain; children, Chris (Julie) Cain of Santa Rosa, California, Brent (Kelsey) Cain of Chandler, Arizona, Roxanne Loew of Chicago, Illinois, Nick Loew of Chariton, Matt Loew of Chicago, Illinois, Sandy (Richard) Byrne of Cary, North Carolina, Steve (Phyllis) Loew of Dade City, Florida, Kate Jorgensen of Wayne, Nebraska, and Angie Loew of Virginia Beach, Virginia.; 25 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and brothers, William (Bill) Cain of Ankeny and Dean (Connie) Cain of Glenwood.

Ron was preceded in death by his mother, father, step-father Ernest Rose and sister Marie Nutting.
