John Kuster, 71, of Orient died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017, at Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston.
Celebration of life services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at Orient United Methodist Church. The Rev. Cathy Nutting will officiate. Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery, west of Orient. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, in Creston. Memorials are to be determined. John Wesley Kuster, son of Arthur J. Kuster and Violet L. (Stewart) Kuster, was born Feb. 12, 1945, at his home in rural Menlo.
On June 6, 1965, John married Linda Sue Harris in Guthrie Center. They resided in Casey, where John farmed and worked for Schildberg’s Construction until 1982, when they moved to their current farm in Orient. While in Orient, he continued working for Schildberg’s Construction and retired from there after 38 years in 2004. Following his retirement, John continued to farm his land in Orient until he was no longer able to.
John was a member of Orient United Methodist Church.
John is survived by his wife Linda of Orient; sons, Jim Kuster and Scott (Jenn) Kuster, both of Orient; grandchildren, Bailey, Bryant and Aidan Kuster; brothers, Frank “Sonny” Kuster of Henderson, Nevada, Roland (Katie) Kuster of Council Bluffs and Danny (Cathy) Kuster of Waterloo; sisters, Marie Kinsey of Bayard and Janette (Eric) Clowser of Janesville; brother-in-law Bob (Pearl) Harris of Orient; special niece Susan (Louis) Cruz of Orient; many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law Melba Cox; infant brother Jimmy; sisters, Lucille “Sissy” Burger and Marilyn Devilbiss; sister-in-law Janet Kuster; brothers-in-law Bill Bates, Bill Kinsey, Bob Burger and Junior Devilbiss; nephew Lyle Bates and great-niece Brittany Cruz.
