Louise Brandt, 90, of Afton died Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, at Afton Care Center.
Celebration of life services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge St., in Afton. Dwayne Henrichs will officiate. Burial will be in Blakesburg Cemetery in Blakesburg. Open visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials can be directed to the family for later designation. Louise Elizabeth Augusta Brandt, daughter of Otto Frederick Kudart and Laura Magdelena Marie (Scharman) Kudart, was born April 7, 1926, in Argonne, South Dakota. She attended rural school by Rose Hill and later her family moved to Blakesburg.
On Sept. 30, 1944, Louise married Gerald E.”Sam” Brandt in Albia. Louise was a homemaker and helped her husband with farm work. They lived in the Grand River area until retiring and moving to Afton in 1990. Sam died in 1999. Louise later moved to Afton Care Center in March 2013.
Louise is survived by her sons, Harold (Phyllis) Brandt of Waterloo, Terry (Mary) Brandt of Osceola and Jim (Lori) Brandt of Winterset; daughter Deborah Brandt of Afton; grandchildren, Nichelle (Ray) Bunkofske of Waterloo, Kurt Brandt of Waterloo, Raina Brandt of Creston, Gabe McWilliams (Karen Barber) of Cromwell, Lindsey (Johnny) Campbell of Decatur, Jennifer Brandt (Colton Offield) of Decatur, Cody Brandt of Osceola, Shalyn Brandt of Osceola, Amy Strain of Cedar Falls and Ethan Strain of Winterset; 10 great-grandchildren and brother Walter (Marilyn) Kudart of Ottumwa.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gerald in 1999; brother Robert Kudart; sisters, Ruth Runnells and Lillian Espy and great-grandson Samuel.
