Wilma Otis, 102, of Perry, formerly of Afton, died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, at Spring Valley Retirement Center in Perry.

Celebration of life services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at Afton United Methodist Church, 111 S. Douglas St., in Afton. The Rev. Joel Sutton and the Rev. Jim Morris will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, east of Afton. Visitation with family present will be from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to service time at the church. Wilma Gladys (Whitehead) Otis, daughter of Oliver Newton Whitehead and Josie (Downey) Whitehead, was born Nov. 1, 1913, on the family farm near Lorimor. She taught in a one-room school house.

On Aug. 1, 1940, Wilma married Carl R. Otis in Lorimor. They lived and farmed all of their married life in the Afton area. Wilma worked in the school lunchroom at Afton Public Schools. Wilma moved to Perry in the spring of 2013.

Wilma worked helping with various projects at Afton Methodist Church and was a member of the neighborhood club, Afton Friendly Circle.

Wilma is survived by her two sons, Roger (Myrna) Otis of Grimes and Terry (Tak) Otis of Adel; grandchildren, Stephanie (Jason) Haines and Leslie (Grif) Sims and great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Haines, Averi Haines and Lily Sims.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 54 years, Carl Otis; sisters, Irene Winkler, Olive Stalcup, Helen Nauman and Opal in infancy and brother True Whitehead.
