Gary Veitz, 59, of Creston died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, at Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston.

Celebration of life services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, in Creston. The Rev. Tony Thurston officiated. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation was from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday with family present from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to be determined. Gary Dean Veitz, son of Barbara Jean (Nicola) Veitz and Albert Veitz, was born June 22, 1957, in Sedalia, Missouri. He graduated from Creston High School with the class of 1975 and obtained his Bachelor’s degree from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri.

On Nov. 13, 1982, Gary married Debra Sue Adams in Creston. Gary was a teacher and taught for two years in Maxwell, and then in 1982, they moved to Creston where he taught math for 34 years. He retired on May 31, 2016.

Gary was a member of First Christian Church - Disciples of Christ, Elks Lodge and Eagles Lodge, all in Creston.

Gary is survived by his wife Deb of Creston; son Jeff (Jenny) Veitz of Creston; daughter Lindsey Veitz of Storm Lake; granddaughters, Payton and Riley Veitz; mother Barbara Veitz of Creston; brother Michael (Jill) Veitz of Onalaska, Wisconsin; sister-in-law Vicki (Lee) Jobe of Red Oak; brother-in-law Terry (Diane) Adams of Red Oak and a host of friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his father Albert; father- and mother-in-law, Otto and Dorothy Adams and brother-in-law Brian Adams.
