Harriett Hartsook, 82, of Des Moines, formerly of Afton, died Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Mercy Hospice House in Johnston.

Celebration of life services will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 8, at Lions Park in Urbandale. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 9, at Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton. The Rev. Dwayne Henrichs of Thayer will officiate. Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St., in Creston is in charge of the graveside service. Harriett Colleen Hartsook, daughter of Harry C. and Frieda (Wall) Schoenhair, was born April 29, 1933, in Clearfield. Harriett graduated from Creston High School with the class of 1951.

On June 1, 1951, she married Dean R. Hartsook at the Methodist Church in Afton.

Harriett was a homemaker and a caretaker at Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton. Dean and Harriett moved to Afton in 1983 and then moved to Creston in 2005. After Dean died in 2009, Harriett volunteered at Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston. In 2010, Harriett moved to the Des Moines area to be near family.

Harriett is survived by her children, David (Joyce) Hartsook of Branson, Missouri, Barbara Daniel of Fairbanks, Alaska, Nancy (Don) Wood of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Tony (Londa) Hartsook of Des Moines; grandchildren, Christopher (Jacque) of Grimes, Chad of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, Melissa of Coleman, Texas, Jenny of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Hunter of Des Moines and great-grandchildren, Isaac, Charlie and Baylee of Grimes, Michaela and Aurora of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Cooper, Saul, Elijah, Gabby and Juan of Ft. Worth, Texas.

Harriett was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
