Shirley Hiatt, 88, of Creston died Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at Homestead Assisted Living in Creston.

Celebration of life services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, in Creston. Mary O'Riley will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7. Family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday. Shirley M. Hiatt, daughter of Pearlie “Pete” Lauver and Wilma A. (Campbell) Lauver, was born May 6, 1927, in Council Bluffs. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs.

On Jan. 27, 1946, Shirley married Manford V. Hiatt in Council Bluffs. They settled and lived all of their married life in Creston. Shirley worked for Newcomb Drug Store.

Shirley was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Creston where she was a past Sunday school teacher. Shirley was a former officer of the Ladies Elks, a former member of Crestmoor Golf Course and Lakeshore Golf and Country Club in Afton and an auxiliary member of the Brotherhood of the Railroad Trainmen.

Shirley is survived by her daughter Constance (Charlie) Spurgeon of Creston; son Randall Hiatt (Rose Maudlin) of Creston; grandchildren Tonya (Tony) Glenn, Jamie (Lori) Kinyon, Nick (Sarah) Jannings, Lynn (Kirk) Brandt, Lonna (Earl) Hayes, Ryan (Nikki) Spurgeon, Jeremy Hiatt and Lindsey Hiatt; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother Frank Lauver of Council Bluffs; brother-in-law Les Pedersen of Council Bluffs; and sister-in-law Bernice Lauver of Council Bluffs.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband Manford in 2001; brothers, Leslie and Dwayne Lauver; sister Patricia Ann Pedersen; daughter-in-law Angie Hiatt; sisters-in-law, Bernice Lauver and Vicky Lauver; and niece Vicky Jay.
