Susan May James Roberts Berdine Colt, 63, of Columbia, Missouri, formerly of Maryville, Missouri, passed away at home on Monday, Dec. 7, 2015.

Susan was born Dec. 13, 1951, in Creston to Mayfrey Millree (Clayton) and Lowell Rex James.

Susan married Daryl Ross Roberts on Aug. 14, 1971, and later divorced. On Aug. 23, 1974, she married Terry Gale Berdine with whom she had two children, Derek R. and Carissa R. Berdine before being widowed on Dec. 26, 1986. On June 17, 1989, Susan married David E. Colt in Maryville, Missouri, with whom she shared a wonderful life full of love and laughter.

Susan was a 1970 Creston High School graduate and held an associates degree from Southwest Iowa Community College in Creston. After being widowed, she moved to Maryville to complete her bachelors degree in child and family studies from Northwest Missouri State University. Upon her move to Maryville, she and her children joined the First United Methodist Church where she met her husband-to-be Dave in a Sunday school class. They shared a deep faith in Christ that bound them together in a happy marriage. She worked many different jobs, but her favorites were being a mom and most recently a grandmother to Audrey. Susan was an active member and officer of the PEO Sisterhood, most recently serving as Chaplin of Chapter KA in Columbia. Susan was a member of the Community United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir.

Susan loved dancing, caring for others, traveling and especially spending time with family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and made quick friendships with anyone who met her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Terry G. Berdine; several aunts and uncles and nephew Brian Edwards.

Susan is survived by her husband David at home; son Derek (Wendy and daughter Audrey) of Kansas City; daughter Carissa of Columbia, Missouri; sisters, Jane (Dallas) Edwards of Afton and Ellen (Charles) Rinner of Creston; brothers, Jerry (Mary) James of Arvada, Colorado, and Steve (Barb) James of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and countless nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom she adored.

Susan wished to be cremated. Her memorial service and celebration of life will be held Friday, Dec. 11, at the First United Methodist Church, in Maryville, Missouri. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. at the church followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. Family and friends are invited to a chili luncheon in the Fellowship Hall following the service. Visitation will also be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, in Columbia, Missouri, at the Community United Methodist Church followed by a short celebration of life.
