Macy Evans to represent Union County 4-H at the state level

Macy Evans, daughter of Rob and April Evans of Creston, was recently selected to represent Union County 4-H at the state level as a member of the State 4-H Council.

Her term will begin this fall and continue into the summer of 2016. Evans is one of 40 high school-aged 4-H’ers around the state of Iowa to be selected for the State 4-H Council.

“This is a huge honor for Macy and our 4-H program is excited to have an outstanding representative for Union County,” said Haley Jones, county youth and outreach coordinator. “It has been fun to watch Macy participate in the many areas that 4-H has to offer throughout my first year here in Union County.”

The State 4-H Council is a group of high school 4-H’ers who work directly with Iowa 4-H Youth Development staff to represent the program across the state.

They speak to local 4-H groups, represent 4-H’ers ideas to staff, and work in committees to plan the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference, 4-H’ers for 4-H campaign and 4-H promotional ideas.

When asked what she was most looking forward to as she takes her place the 2015-2016 State 4-H Council Macy said, “I’m excited to meet new faces and learn from their experiences to benefit not only myself, but my county 4-H program.”

Evans is a seven-year member of the local Highland Highlights 4-H club where she currently serves as the vice president.

She is also the president of the County Youth Council which is a local group of high school 4-H’ers who meet monthly to plan county-wide events for 4-H’ers. Evans currently serves on the beef committee, small animal committee and is a member of newly formed Union County Youth Beef Team.

“The highlight of my 4-H career so far was when I won reserve champion market beef at the 2012 Union County Fair,” said Evans. “4-H has really brought my family together as we go to monthly 4-H meetings, work on livestock and static exhibits together throughout the year and attend the county fair every summer.”

Union County has a history of State 4-H Council representatives dating back to 1934.

However, there has not been a representative on the State 4-H Council since Brett Moffitt in 2001-2002.
