Roy Slezak Jr., 87, of Sun City, Ariz., died March 14, 2014, at Golden Hearts Assisted Living Center in Glendale, Ariz.

Roy Slezak Jr., son of Gladys (Everling) and Roy Slezak Sr., was born Dec. 24, 1926, in Orient.

Roy graduated from Orient High School and then attended Simpson College in Indianola.

After graduation, Roy began working as a teacher and coach in Arispe.

On Nov. 23, 1949, Roy married Carolyn Jean Strauss in Creston, where they lived for the next 33 years.

During this time, Roy worked for Anderson-Erickson Dairy and several local businesses, and then later resumed teaching and coaching in the Cromwell School system. Upon consolidation of the Cromwell and Creston schools, Roy left the education field and began working with Jean at Sid Strauss Ready-to-Wear, which they owned and operated until 1982, when they moved to Sun City West, Ariz. Roy continued to work in administrative positions with local real estate companies, until retiring.

Roy is survived by his children, Stephen (wife Ruth) of Iowa City and Barbara (husband Michael) of Glendale, Ariz., daughter-in-law Sue Slezak of Phoenix, Ariz., and David (wife Maureen) of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren, Michael, Sandy, Rachel and Keira Slezak; sister Barbara Shelby of Bethany, Mo.; and in-laws, Linda Hartsock of Creston and Betty and Bill Strauss of Panora.

Roy was preceded in death by his wife Jean, parents, son Gregory Vincent Slezak; brothers-in-law, Nic Shelby and Jim Hartsock; and parents-in-law, Sidney and Barbara Strauss.
