Pauline Dunn Creston

Pauline J. Dunn, 86, of Creston died Aug. 16, 2013, at Greater Regional Hospice Home.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Dave Tebbenkamp and the Rev. Robert Sauser will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St., is in charge of arrangements. Pauline June Dunn, daughter of May (Purcell) and Walter Smith, was born April 30, 1927, in Creston.

Pauline lived in various places, but resided in Lake Station, Ind., for 35 years.

On Jan. 17, 1948, Pauline married Hubert Wendell “Sam” Dunn at the home of her aunt and uncle in Creston.

Pauline worked as a waitress in Sherman, Texas, and as a phone operator in Memphis, Tenn. She made canteens and plates for the Army during WWII in Little Rock, Ark., and worked at an ammunition plant in Baraboo, Wis. Pauline also worked for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, Wash., building B-17 and B-29 bombers. After the war, she worked as a nurse aide in Hobart, Ind., and for General Mills in Chicago, Ill.

Pauline and Sam returned to Creston in 1981.

Pauline last worked for the Area XIV Agency on Aging driving commodities until she retired in 1995.

Pauline was a member of the First Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school for many years and worked in the church nursery. She was also member of the Christian Womens Club and Business and Professional Women.

Pauline is survived by her grandsons, Daniel (Shirk) Zamora of San Pedro, Calif., and Tim Shirk of Lake Station, Ind.; great-granddaughter Dharma “Lulu” Zamora of San Pedro, Calif.; son-in-law F. Daniel Shirk of Gonzales, La.; and nieces, Sherry Drenski of Cortland, Ohio, Shirley Smith of Marney, Susan (Greg) Beaumont of Des Moines and Donna Miller of Creston.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1983; son Thomas Walter Dunn; daughter Sandra Shirk in 2011; sisters, Alice Martin, Bessey Fern, Grace Hogueson, Daisey Fezzette, Eloise Shoemaker, Betty Conley and Dorothy Little; brothers, Jack, Pearl and Charles Smith; infant sisters, Nellie and Georgie Smith; and two infant brothers.
