Betty Gross Creston

Betty Gross, 80, of Creston died Nov. 12, 2012, at Creston Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Open visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Iowa Hospice. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.

Betty Jean Gross, daughter of Wanda Mae (Johnston) and Harry Graham, was born Nov. 21, 1931, in Diagonal.

Betty graduated from Creston High School in 1949.

On Sept. 10, 1949, Betty married Richard “Dick” Douglas Gross.

They lived in Creston for 64 years, where Betty was a claims representative for 30 years at the Social Security office and retired May 20, 1988.

Betty and Richard bought an acreage near Goose Pond Corner, before moving to an apartment in Mount Ayr. They moved to Maple Ridge Assisted Living in Mount Ayr, and after Dick died, Betty moved to Creston Nursing and Rehab Center in May 2012.

Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Creston.

Betty is survived by her sons, Dennis (wife Lori) Gross of Creston, Michael (wife Glenda) Gross of West Des Moines and Richard (wife Gina) Gross of Newman, Ga.; grandchildren, Tony Gross, Joey (wife April) Gross and Shaune (wife Tonya) Tindle, all of Creston, Jennifer (husband Aaron) Jackson of Carlisle and Brian (wife Myra) Gross of Marquette; many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband in 2010, Betty was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law Doug and Velda Graham; sister Mary Recoy July 25, 2012; grandson Nathan (wife Kim) Gross in 2003 and granddaughter-in-law Vicky Gross.
