Mary Morrison, 89, of Corning died March 24, 2012, at her home.

Mass of Christian Burial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Corning with the Rev. Lazerus Kirigia as celebrant and the Rev. Paul Monahan as concelebrant. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Corning. Visitation with family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 701 Seventh St., Corning, with Rosary at 6 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family to be determined at a later date.

Mary Cecelia Morrison, daughter of Grayce (McCarty) and Ernest Ury, was born April 4, 1922, in Wiota, where she attended school and graduated in 1939.

On Aug. 16, 1941, Mary married John Clinton Morrison at St. Ballermine Catholic Church in Burbank, Calif.

While living in California, Mary worked as a dental assistant. Mary and J.C. returned to Massena to farm, moving to Corning in 1950, where they lived the rest of their married lives.

For many years, she served as assistant deputy treasurer for Adams County.

In 1969, J.C. and Mary moved from the farm to their current residence in Corning. That same year, while continuing to farm, they went to work for Terra Western Fertilizer Company, where Mary was involved in every aspect of the business, until they retired in the late 1980s.

She volunteered at the elementary school helping children with their reading. She was helped organize the ecumenical Christmas Angel program, which provided gifts and food to families at Christmas time.

Mary served at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church as a religious education teacher for 55 years.

In 2007, St. Mary’s Press recognized her with a nationwide Ambassador of Christ award. Mary also served the church as lector, minister of Holy Communion and member of St. Patrick’s Altar Society.

Mary is survived by her sons, Bill (wife Kathy) Morrison and Matt (wife Diane) Morrison, all of Corning, and Tom (wife Maria) Morrison of Council Bluffs; daughters, Connie (husband Bill) Russell of Anita, Monica (husband Jim) Hughes of Glenwood, Mary Jo “Jody” (husband Mike) Hughes of Council Bluffs and Colleen “Peppy” Kamerzell (friend Jay Malone) of Council Bluffs; brother Richard Glen Ury of Aumsville, Ore.; sister-in-law Helen Coughlin Morrison of Omaha, Neb.; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and special home-care givers, hospice nurses, and many friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 2008; grandson Jeff Kresnik and brothers, Merle and Leo Ury.
