Vanessa Preast and Matthew Pokorny, both of Ames, were married in a 2 p.m. May 1 ceremony officiated by the Rev. Jon Seda at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ames.
The bride is the daughter of Julie and Edward Preast of Jenson Beach, Fla. The groom is the son of Dr. Alvin and Patricia Pokorny of Creston.
Maid of honor was Natalie Nieto of Miami, Fla., sister of the bride.
Bridesmaid was Jennifer Marik of Oregon.
Best man was Thomas Pokorny of Edwardsville, Ill., brother of the groom.
Groomsmen were John Pokorny of Creston, brother of the groom, and Dan Black of Ames.
Ushers were Kari Kraemer and Angie Gumm, both of Ames.
Organist was Mary Ellen Wishart of Ames.
Vocalist was Katherine Ament and pianist was Don Wishart, both of Ames.
Honored guests were Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Cesareo of Vero Beach, Fla., grandparents of the bride, and Vincenza Pisani of Vero Beach, Fla., great-aunt of the bride.
The bride graduated from Martin County High School in Stuart, Fla., University of Florida with a doctorate of veterinary medicine (D.V.M.) degree and is working on a doctorate of curriculum development degree at Iowa State University in Ames.
The groom graduated from Creston High School and Iowa State University with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
A reception was held after the ceremony at Knapp-Storms Dining Complex in Ames.
