Union County arrests - April 23, 2024

Miguel A. Zapata Gonzalez, 40, of Lenox, was taken into custody April 19 at the Union County Law Enforcement Center on a Union County warrant for the charge of failure to appear on the original charge of OWI, first offense.

According to a Union County District Court document, Zapata was scheduled to appear in court for a pretrial conference on the original charge April 5 and did not.

Zapata was released from the Union County Jail after a plea of guilty was filed and Zapata served a court ordered sentence of two days in jail.

Erik A. Garza, 24, of Creston, was taken into custody April 21 on the charges of eluding and interference with official acts.

According to a Union County report, at approximately 10:15 p.m. a 2019 Jeep Cherokee was observed by deputies northbound on Highway 25 at 88 mph in a 55 mph zone. A traffic stop was initiated but the Jeep did not immediately stop, instead it continued northbound. After approximately two miles, the Jeep pulled over.

The driver, later identified as Garza, was given repeated lawful orders to exit the Jeep multiple times but refused to do so. Garza finally exited after four deputies were present at the scene. Garza admitted to deputies he was aware of the deputy behind him who attempted to pull him over and said he did not initially stop.

Garza was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from on $1,300 cash or surety bond.

Kenneth W. Killen II, 28, of Osceola, was taken into custody April 22 on a Union County warrant for the charge of probation violation.

According to a Department of Correctional Services report, Killen was convicted of domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury in Union County. He was sentenced to serve one year of jail time which was suspended with one year of probation.

Killen violated the terms of his probation when he exceeded the allowed number of absences for a court ordered class, quit his job and failed to keep his GPS battery charged as required. From July 2023 through March he tested positive for THC five times and positive for methamphetamine three times and has failed to follow through with required substance abuse treatment. In March, Killon was charged in Warren County for harassment, third degree.

Killen was transported to the Union County Jail where he was held without bond until seen by a judge.
