George Davis, 79, of Lenox passed away Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2020, at Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston after a short battle with cancer. Funeral celebration of life services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2020, at Ritchie Funeral Home in Lenox. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. George Wesley Davis was born Nov. 7, 1940, in Iowa City, the son of Melvin Davis and Gladys (Gold) Davis. He grew up in the Conway area, attended school and graduated from Lenox High School with the class of 1959. Soon after graduation, George volunteered to serve his country with the United States Navy. He served from 1959 to 1963. Upon his honorable discharge he met Kay and the couple were united in marriage Feb. 22, 1964. The couple were blessed with the birth of one daughter, Robin. The couple later divorced and George was a long-time custodian for the Southeast Polk Community School. When he turned 70, George retired and moved to Lenox to be near his daughter.
Left to cherish George’s memory are his daughter Robin (Jimmy) Flannigan of Lenox; two sisters: Marton McMahill of Ankeny and Patty Shafar of Bedford; his ex-wife Kay Davis of Princeton, Missouri; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; along with many other family members and friends.
George was preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Gladys Davis; sister Lavon Vest; and two brothers: Roquel Davis and Butch Davis.
George will be missed by his family and friends.
