Bedford 8,

East Union 3

BEDFORD — Bedford scored five runs in the first inning and held on for an 8-3 win over East Union here Tuesday.

Danielle Riley took the loss, giving up eight runs, only three earned, on nine hits. She struck out six and walked one.

Chay Blondowski doubled for East Union and stole two bases. Courtney Phelps and Cassidy Riley each finished with a hit for the Eagles.

Macey Newlin drove in three runs for Bedford and picked up the win in the circle, striking out six and walking three. Rachel Armstrong drove in two runs for the Bulldogs.

Lenox 10,

Mount Ayr 3

MOUNT AYR — Lenox scored 10 runs on 14 hits and took advantage of five Mount Ayr errors here Tuesday in a 10-3 win.

Shantelle Brown finished 3-for-4 in the game with a triple and Megan Brown was also 3-4. Aurora Arevalo and Emily Powell each recorded two hits. Arevalo hit a double, as did Jessica Anderson.

Anderson drove in three runs for the Tigers, while Bailey Schmitz had two RBI.

“Another good hitting game for the Tigers, as the Brown girls each went 3-4,” Lenox head coach Tom Shields said. “I liked both of our pitchers’ performances, as Beth (Christensen) got out of a third inning jam to finish it out.”

Katie Dukes started for Lenox, striking out two and walking two, before giving way to Christensen in the third inning. Christensen struck out four and walked none in the win.

Bailey Anderson hit a double and a triple for Mount Ayr, while Maddie Mobley drove in a run with a squeeze bunt.

Tessa Shields took the loss for Mount Ayr.

Lenox improved to 12-11 overall and 7-6 in the Pride of Iowa Conference with the win.

Murray 14,

East Union 0

AFTON — Murray eighth-grader Kayla Wookey pitched a two-hit shutout here Monday, as Murray topped East Union 14-0 in six innings.

The Lady Mustangs scored six runs in the sixth inning to end the game by the 10-run mercy rule.

Wookey struck out 10 and walked none in the win.

Breianna Klein finished with three hits, including a double, and three RBI. Brandi Gilbert had two hits and two RBI, including a home run — her fourth of the year. Wookey recorded two hits and drove in two runs. Deena Snyder also had two hits and drove in two runs.

Emily Eckels and Cassidy Riley each recorded a hit for East Union, with Riley’s going for a double.

Danielle Riley took the loss, giving up eight runs, two earned, on eight hits. She struck out two. Allison Hadley pitched one inning of relief and gave up six runs on six hits and one walk.

Murray improved to 21-4 for the season with the win.
