Mount Ayr 2,

Wayne 1

MOUNT AYR — Lucas Wurster scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the ninth to lift Mount Ayr past Wayne Monday night, 2-1.

Kyle Dolecheck had an RBI single in the fourth for a 1-0 Raider lead. After a fielding error, Wayne tied it with a run in the sixth.

Mount Ayr loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh with one out, but was unable to get a run home.

In the top of the ninth, pitcher Levi Jarred got a strikeout and fly out before yielding a two-out double. Jacob Taylor was called on in relief and got a strikeout to set the stage for the winning rally.

Lucas Wurster reached on a walk and Nick Wurster got his third single of the night. A passed ball moved the runners to second and third.

“Lucas got a good jump on the next passed ball and was able to get under the tag at the plate for the walk-off win,” said Raider coach Tanner Rinehart.

Jarred allowed only one run on five hits, one walk and a season-high 15 strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings. Nick Wurster was 3-of-5 at the plate, Dolecheck was 2-4 with an RBI and stolen base and Jarred had a single, walk and run scored.

Mount Ayr improved to 6-9 for the season and Wayne fell to 8-10.

“We have been on the wrong side of too many one-run games,” said Rinehart, “so it is a great team win in front of the big home crowd. Levi was fantastic on the mound tonight and Jacob came in to close the door for the last out. We ran the gases aggressively late in the game to get the winning run across and that was the difference.”

Lamoni 10, Lenox 3

LENOX — Colton Ranney pitched a one-hitter with seven strikeouts as Lamoni improved to 8-10 for the season with a 10-3 victory over Lenox Monday night.

Lenox’s only hit was a sixth-inning single by Aaron Schmitz.

SE Warren 9, Nodaway Valley 5

GREENFIELD — Southeast warren broke open a close game with four runs in the third inning in defeating Nodaway Valley Monday night, 9-5.

“We hit the ball well with nine hits in the game, but six defensive errors proved too much to overcome,” said Nodaway Valley coach Dan Jameson. “Southeast Warren did a nice job of putting the ball in play.”

Starting pitcher Casey Ladd lasted 2 1/3 innings with one strikeout and one walk. Sam Marnin pitched 4 2/3 innings of relieve with two strikeouts and a walk.

Marnin went 3-of-4 at the plate with an RBI. Jackson Lamb hit a two-run triple, Colton Garside rapped a double and Jacob Baudler had two hits for the Wolverines (10-8).
