Rev. Dr. Jeanne Groom, 63, of Creston, formerly of Prescott, died June 20, 2015, at Creston Nursing and Rehab.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 3, at Mount Zion Cemetery, rural Prescott. The Rev. Tony Thurston, First Christian Church, will officiate. No visitation is planned. Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St., is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given in Jeanne's name. Online condolences may be left at www.pearsonfuneralhomes.com.

Jeanne Dianne Groom, daughter of Doloris Joan (Hill) and Lawrence Elton Groom, was born Aug. 4, 1951, in Waterloo.

Jeanne graduated from North High School in Des Moines in 1969. She attended Grandview College for two years and received her bachelor’s degree from Drake University. Jeanne attended Christian Theological School and received a PHD from United Theological Seminary in St. Paul, Minn., in 1997.

Rev. Dr. Groom served as the youth minister for Capitol Hill Christian Church in Des Moines; served four years as pastor at Hynsdale; and served four years near Sioux City at the Pearson Christian Church. Prior to retiring, Jeanne served as pastor for 26 years at the Prescott United Church Disciples of Christ in Prescott.

Rev. Dr. Groom helped organize a community food bank in Highland Park and the first Crop Walk in Des Moines. She began providing educational materials in her churches for adults and also materials that were appropriate for children.

Jeanne was most recently a member of the First Christian Church in Creston.

Jeanne is survived by her brother Christopher Groom of Winterset; and close friends, John and Priscilla Swatosh of Fenton, Mo.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents and brother Robert Groom.
