Karen Mathes

Karen Mathes, 72, of Murray died May 16, 2015, at her home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Osceola. The Rev. Dwayne Henrichs will officiate. Interment will be in Murray Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A lunch will be held following interment at Murray Community Center. Memorial contributions may be given to her family. Karen Kaye Mathes, daughter of Helen Beatrice (Preston) and Ralph Vernon Crabb, was born Sept. 20, 1942, in Osceola.

Karen grew up in Osceola. She had lived in Kansas City, Lamoni and Colorado prior to moving to Murray 45 years ago.

On July 20, 1974, Karen married Wendell Roland Mathes at the Murray Methodist Church parsonage.

Karen was a daycare provider and had children in her home for the past 37 years.

Karen was a former member of the Murray Community Development Board and a member of the Red Hat Ladies.

Karen is survived by her husband Roland Mathes of Murray; sons, Jeff LaMasters of Murray and Cory (Nikki) Mathes of Peoria, Ariz.; grandchildren, Mike (Devon) of Iowa City, Debbie (Chad) of Murray, Christian (Alyson) of Murray and Jasmine of Peoria, Ariz.; nine great-grandchildren, as well as other relatives and many friends.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents and brother Richard Crabb.
