Ladies Lakeshore Auxiliary

Ladies Lakeshore Auxiliary met March 25.

Canasta winners were Wanda Nash, first; Connie Bailey, second; and Barb Veitz, third.

Barb Bills won the door prize.

Maxine May was hostess for cards and chatter Wednesday.

Crest Area for Life

Crest Area for Life met 7:30 p.m. March 24 at Holy Spirit hall. President Meg Crawford opened up the meeting with the right to life prayer. Eight members were in attendance.

Secretary Terry Madison read the minutes from the February meeting. They were corrected and approved.

June Huewe gave the treasurer’s report. It was approved.

Velma Riegel sent out seven baby congratulatory cards.

Crawford gave a political report.

Under old business, Crawford reported there will be a new billboard to replace the one on North Cherry Street. It will say “Abortion is forever, get the facts first.”

Under new business, InnerVision Health Care in Des Moines is having a fundraiser June 1. Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds and Congressman Joni Ernest will be co-chairpersons. It will be held at the Holiday Inn Airport.

Crest Area for Life’s next meeting will be 7:30 p.m. April 28 at Holy Spirit hall.

Rich Madison made a motion, seconded by Phyllis Allen, to adjourn the meeting.

Crest Area Theatre

The monthly meeting of the Crest Area Theatre Board was held March 16. The meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. with seven board members and six CAT members present.

The musical committee presented their selections of seven musicals for possible production this season. The selections were narrowed to two, and CAT will now search to see if those are available. Crest Area Theatre seeks to provide an opportunity for creative activity and entertainment in the theatre and to serve the community by combining the talents of local artists for dramatic, cultural and artistic developments. Membership is open to all. Meetings are held the first Monday of each month.

Union County Genealogical Society

Union County Genealogical Society met March 23 at the library with 12 present.

The theme was Irish research. Jane Briley showed a You Tube program “Everybody’s Got a Little Irish in Them,” featuring Crista Cowan, the barefoot genealogist. Cowan advised first researching Irish records available in the United States before seeking records in Ireland. Briley showed examples of many records available online, and shared free resources of information.

Roll call was a sharing of information on Irish ancestors, or a memory of St. Patrick’s Day.

Briley presided at the business meeting. She announced that each meeting will offer discussion time for general problems or sharing of helpful information on research. There was brief discussion on how to organize supporting material which a genealogist collects, and on Russian research.

Saundra Leininger reported progress on plans for developing a website and a cemetery book. Training for this is tentatively set for June. She also reminded of the spring conference of the Iowa Genealogical Society on April 18 in Des Moines.

The next meeting will be April 27 at the library.

Kiwanis

The weekly Kiwanis meeting was held 12:05 p.m. Tuesday at The Windrow with 22 members and three guests. President Jane Lowe presided, Ed Ritter did the prayer, and Jamie Travis was the finemaster.

There was no program because of the monthly board meeting, but Congressman David Young gave an update on his district offices locations including the one in Creston and upcoming legislation when he returns to Washington next week after spring recess.

Paul Lorenz gave the final update on the Kiwanis Pancake Day which was up over last years totals.Thank you to all members for working and selling tickets.
