Lenox 65,

East Union 51

AFTON — After getting out to a 22-6 lead through the first quarter, Lenox held on for a 65-51 win over East Union here on Friday.

Lenox post players Spencer Brown and Sam Donaldson controlled the paint early in the game, as the Tigers jumped out to their big lead.

Brown finished the game just two assists shy of a triple-double, posting 26 points with 12 rebounds, eight assists, three steals and two blocked shots. Donaldson added 16 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor with four rebounds.

“We started strong jumping to a 22-6 lead,” Lenox head coach Jesse Cox said. “After building the lead, we lost our defensive intensity, usually standing flat footed on defense the second half. But we were able to make plays to hold off East Union charges and come away with a double-digit victory.”

By the time East Union senior Cole Campbell knocked down a halfcourt buzzer-beater to end the first half, East Union had cut Lenox’s lead to 37-26.

The Tigers assisted on 22 of their 28 baskets in the game. In addition to Brown’s eight assists, Dawson Tullberg dished out seven assists to go with his four points. Carson Cline finished with two assists.

Frank Martinez also reached double figures scoring for the Tigers with 11 points, including 3-of-4 shooting from behind the 3-point arc. Leevi Marshall scored four points, as Cline and Kaleb Anderson each scored two points.

Campbell led East Union with 15 points. Mason Gossman added 14 points. Gabe Nixon also reached double figures with 11 points. Tyler Kelley chipped in six points for the Eagles. Brandon Hulsey scored three and Casey Walter added two points.

“We need to play how we are capable of playing for every minute of the game,” East Union head coach Thad Tussey said.

Nodaway Valley 66, SW Valley 40

GREENFIELD — Senior forward Nathan Andrews posted a double-double, leading Nodaway Valley to a 66-40 win over Southwest Valley here on Friday.

Andrews scored 17 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the Wolverine victory. Junior Jackson Lamb added 21 points with seven rebounds and five steals. Senior point guard David Schweitzer scored six points and dished out six assists. Sam Marnin came off the bench to score eight points and grab five rebounds. Ryan Jensen scored seven points with five boards.

Nodaway Valley outrebounded the Timberwolves 44-33 in the win, and held Southwest Valley to just 25.5 percent shooting from the field.

Scott Vanderhoof led Southwest Valley with 10 points, while Colten Drake and Lane Peterson each scored five points. Wyatt McAlpin, Chance Cobb and Bryan Pearson scored four points apiece. Dalton Davis and Thad Bruning each added three points.

Diagonal 84, Moravia 50

MORAVIA — Diagonal junior Levi Jarred scored 18 points in his return to the Maroon lineup here Friday, helping Diagonal post an 84-50 win over Moravia.

Jarred, who had missed the previous three games with a concussion, added six rebounds and seven assists in the win.

Junior Jacob Taylor finished one assist shy of recording a triple-double. Taylor scored 24 points with a team-high 12 rebounds. He filled out the stat sheet with nine assists, five steals and four blocked shots.

Three other Maroon players reached double figures in scoring, as senior Blake Butler scored 14 points with seven rebounds, junior Kade Means netted 12 points and freshman Kole Paxson finished with 10 points.

Gerad Naill added four points with seven rebounds and four assists, while freshman Ty Taylor scored two points with three rebounds.

Diagonal improved to 4-1 for the season with the win.

Bedford 68,

Mount Ayr 53

BEDFORD — A 23-12 first quarter was the biggest difference here Friday, as Bedford knocked off Mount Ayr by a 68-53 score.

“It was a tough start tonight,” Mount Ayr head coach Bret Ruggles said. “We just didn’t lock up defensively like we needed to early in the game. When you are on the road in the POI, you have to play great defense early and challenge to adjust your style. We didn’t do that tonight and we allowed their pressure to be a problem for us.”

Junior Rhett Murphy scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds with three blocked shots to lead the Raiders in the loss. Kyle Dolecheck scored 10 points with seven rebounds and three steals. Nick Wurster added nine points off the bench.

Caleb Schnoor scored eight points with two assists. Lincoln Martin scored five points and finished with five rebounds. Riley Weehler dished out a team-high three assists in the loss.

Noah Thornton scored 22 points to lead Bedford.

GVC 78, O-M 30

DES MOINES — Grand View Christian built an early lead in pulling away from Orient-Macksburg for a 78-30 win here on Friday.

Logan Holste led the Bulldogs with eight points. James Sullivan and Jordan Thompson each scored six points. Dylan Nichols added five points.

O-M 56, Seymour 50

SEYMOUR — Orient-Macksburg pulled away in the second half for a 56-50 win over Seymour here on Saturday.

The two teams entered halftime knotted at 27-27.

It marked the first time in four years that both the Orient-Macksburg boys and girls basketball teams won on the same night.

Jordan Thompson scored 22 points to lead all scorers. Dylan Nichols added 16 points. Jesse Johnson finished with seven and James Sullivan scored six points.

Justin Jerrett led Seymour with 17 points.
