Kathleen McCabe Britten, 82, of rural Creston died Nov. 15, 2014, at Community Care Center in Stuart.

Mass of the Resurrection will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at St. John's Catholic Church in Greenfield. The Rev. Ken Gross will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Nevinville. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a 5:30 p.m. scripture service at Steen Funeral Home, 101 S.E. Fourth St., Greenfield. Memorials may be given to St. John's Catholic Church or Stuart Community Care Center.

Kathleen McCabe Britten, daughter of Bridget (Lyons) and Michael McCabe, was born Oct. 9, 1932, in Longford, Ireland.

Kathleen was raised and educated in Ireland. She graduated from high school and attended prep school in Ireland.

On Feb. 27, 1965, Kathleen married Philip H. Britten in New York City.

They farmed in rural Creston, and she was active on the family farm until 1990.

She was a para-educator from 1991-2010 at Orient-Macksburg Community Schools.

Kathleen was an active member of St. John’s Catholic Church and served many years on the Orient-Macksburg School Board.

Kathleen is survived by her children, Linda Abbott (fiancé Larry Hunecke) of Knoxville, Stephen (wife Alda) Britten of Mission, Texas, Brian (wife Laura) Britten of Creston, Kevin (wife Angie) Britten of Red Oak and Dan (wife Tina) Britten of Orient; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister Anne Kane of Longford, Ireland; brothers, Brian McCabe of Bronx, N.Y., and John (wife Bernadette) McCabe of Bergenfield, N.J.; other relatives and friends.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents; sister Bridie Leto; brother Michael McCabe; and adopted brother Peter Doherty.
