Club news

Iowa Alpha Sigma

Iowa Alpha Sigma Master Chapter No. 1632 met 6:30 p.m. Nov. 13 at A & G Pizza, Steakhouse and Lounge. The social committee was in charge.

Husbands were guests for the Thanksgiving meeting, and the tables were decorated with gourds and other Thanksgiving decorations.

Pat and Bill Fils had an anniversary Nov. 15.

All spent time visiting.

The Dec. 11 meeting will be at Summit House with Bev Miller as hostess. This will be a 6:30 p.m. potluck with husbands as guests.

Kent Dinner Club

Kent Dinner Club met Nov. 13 with eight attending.

The next meeting will be 5:30 p.m. Dec. 12 at The Windrow.

Everyone is welcome who went to Kent School or lived around Kent.

St. John’s Women’s Fellowship

St. John’s United Church of Christ Women’s Fellowship met Nov. 10. Delores Doench gave devotions with a Thanksgiving theme. Joan Chubick collected the Least Coin.

Reports on a recent bake sale and soup supper were given.

Peggy Erskine gave the card report and names were collected to send Thanksgiving cards to.

The annual potluck Christmas party was set 5 p.m. Dec. 8.

A date for the Hanging of the Greens was set for 1 p.m. Nov. 23. Preparation for the loaves of bread to be passed out Nov. 23 were discussed.

Refreshments were served by Doench.

GRMC Auxiliary

GRMC Auxiliary Board held its monthly meeting 10 a.m. Nov. 10 in the MAP Conference Room. A total of 10 board members were present with Annette Rice. The meeting was conducted by Della Hunter.

There was not an administrative report for this meeting.

The secretary’s report was reviewed and approved.

Stacey Ray, gift shop manager, gave her first board report in her new position. She reported several new items have arrived. She is also exploring new sales and methods to monitor accounts. The manager transition appears to be going smoothly. The shop will be closed was closed Monday in preparation of the open house. The gift shop holiday open house was Tuesday. The gift shop volunteer update includes the addition of two new members: Joanne Gibson and Chuck Erskine.

Annette Rice, volunteer director, spoke to the board on her recent resignation effective Dec. 31. She has been with the hospital for 28 years. She is already making travel plans and plans on serving in other volunteer positions.

Hunter and Jone Snyder also announced their resignation to the Auxiliary Board. Hunter will also resign from her volunteer duties. Snyder will continue to volunteer in the various departments within GRMC. Their service on the committee will also be greatly missed.

The finance report was reviewed.

The Lighted Snowflake Project (Lights for Loved Ones) is moving along at a good speed. Approximately 100 snowflakes have been purchased for window display, the lights will be set to come on from 5 to 11 p.m. each evening. All contributions will support the GRMC Auxiliary and Healthcare Foundation. For more information, call 641-782-3828.

In other business, the board approved increasing the Auxiliary dues to $10 per year. Tammy Reeves made a motion to approve and was followed by Snyder. Motion approved.

Rice will be hosting a brunch at her home for the meeting 9:30 a.m. Dec. 8.

Creston VFW Post 1797

Creston VFW Post 1797 held its monthly meeting by helping with Veterans Day activities at the high school. This included sponsoring the guest speaker State Dept. of Iowa Sr. Vice
Commander Travis Holden. Then a Freedom Rock dedication program was held, also at the high school, because of inclement weather.

A veterans supper was held at the Elks from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening.

To all the citizens of Creston and Union County who helped and participated in all these activities, thank you. Freedom is Not Free and you have helped show this.

Post 1797 will hold its next meeting Dec. 9 at the Elks with 6 p.m. supper and 7 p.m. meeting.

All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Kiwanis

The weekly Kiwanis meeting was held 12:05 p.m. Tuesday at The Windrow with 23 members and six guests. President Jane Lowe presided. Ken Norton did the prayer, and Roger Lanning was finemaster.

The program was Brian Morrison, head football coach, and Ryan McKim, offensive coach, for the Creston O-M high school football team. The senior captains from the team also attended and discussed the season and first trip to state football at the UNI dome.

Kiwanis fresh wreaths and swags will be here Wednesday for members to pick up. The fundraiser was a great success.

The club is also still picking up and distributing coats for those in need during this winter season.

Ladies Lakeshore Auxiliary

Ladies Lakeshore Auxiliary met Nov. 19.

Canasta winners were Mary Kline, first; Wanda Nash, second; and Carol Harrison, third.

Kline won the door prize.

The next meeting will be Dec. 3 at The Pizza Ranch for a Christmas party.
