Smith launches Stop the Money Madness campaign

Ruth Smith, an Independent candidate, has officially filed with the State of Iowa as one of the six U.S. Senate candidates for the 2014 election.

Her Stop the Money Madness campaign expresses her primary concern about the strong “puppet strings” of big money donors who control elected officials once they get into office.

“In our current system, both Democrats and Republicans are dependent upon enormous amounts of money to fund their election and re-election campaigns,” Smith said. “The political world clearly understands that the candidate with the most money will most likely win. I want the system to change so that our leaders are more honestly considering the interests of regular people instead of big money contributors.”

Smith has a persistent interest in political leadership at every level.

She currently serves on the city council in Lamoni and has previously pursued state legislature positions.

Her values include personal responsibility, honesty, compassion and justice. These values will direct her policymaking.

“Iowa voters will learn to trust me…I am very direct and honest with people,” Smith said. “They will quickly see that their perspective matters to me and that I will follow through for them.”

Smith’s interest in public service led her to complete a master’s degree in public policy and administration.

For more than 20 years, Smith has worked in the health care system as a physical therapist. She also has experience in small business and education.

“My diverse experience in the work world has been very challenging and rewarding, but none of it compares to my commitment to family and public service,” Smith said.

Smith has been married to her husband Ted for 24 years and has three children, Trevor, Sidnee and Karli.

Smith encourages Iowa voters to contact her by phone or email.
