New coach

Kenny Nanny has been named assistant baseball coach and residence hall coordinator (West Hall) at Southwestern Community College.
 Nanny attended SW CC and was a member of the Spartans baseball team from 2009 to 2011, and then transferred to the University of Nebraska at Carney, where he attended full-time for one year while also participating in baseball.

He then transferred to Morningside College in Sioux City, where he received a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a minor in sports management.

Nanny was also a member of the Morningside College baseball team and completed a sports management Internship with their baseball program. This past summer he served as the assistant baseball coach at Westwood Community Schools in Sloan.

Trapshoot

Creston High School and Creston Middle School students and staff are invited to participate in a trap shooting competition to be held Sept. 27 at High Lakes Outdoor Alliance range near Three Mile Lake.

Any person 12 years of age or order is eligible to compete.

Participants will be grouped into one of six age classes and will enter either as a novice or experienced competitor, within that age class.

Entry forms, rules and further written information is available at True Value Hardware, The Pier, Farm & Home Supply, House of Pain or Crest on City Hall. Cost to enter is $25 by Aug. 30 or $35 after Aug. 30.

Entries are to be mailed to the address on the entry form or taken to Maple Street Memories. For more information contact Rick Remake at 782-5264.

Proceeds from the event will go toward the purchase of a new ultrasound machine for the Life Care Pregnancy Crisis Clinic and Resource Center.

Flag football

The Crest on/O-M football program is sponsoring a flag football program for youths in pare-kindergarten through fourth grade this fall.

“This program will be a structured environment where your kids will be instructed by the high school coaching staff and current high school players,” coach Brian Morrison said.

Registration deadline is Sept. 5 at the students’ school office. Cost is $20 per player, which includes team shirt and instruction.

Divisions will be set up for Perk-kindergarten, 1-2 grades and 3-4 grades.

All participants are to report to the high school football bleachers at the start of the Sept. 27 session at 8:30 a.m.

The schedule for the season:

Saturday, Sept. 27 — 8:30 to 10 a.m.

Saturday, Oct. 4 — 9 to 10 a.m.

Monday, Oct. 6 — Under the lights, to be announced.

Saturday, Oct. 11 — 9 to 10 a.m.

Saturday, Oct. 18 — 9 to 10 a.m.
