Matthew Jon Buchanan, 24, 402 N. Oak St. Apt. 19, was charged with driving while suspended and eluding 1:12 a.m. Sunday in the 400 block of North Oak Street.
According to a Creston Police report, officers observed a red four-door passenger vehicle, later identified as a 1998 Volkswagen Jetta, northbound on North Elm Street, come to the flashing stop light at the intersection of North Elm and West Adams streets. The vehicle took off from the stop with excessive speed, causing the tires to squeal in first gear and again in second gear as the driver traveled west on West Adams. The driver turned north onto North Oak Street. Officers engaged the emergency lights for the vehicle as officers turned onto North Oak. The vehicle continued through the intersection of North Oak and West Montgomery streets, and officers engaged the sirens. The vehicle continued, came to a stop sign at North Oak and West Mills streets and slowed down without stopping before continuing north. Officers continued to engage the sirens and followed the vehicle to the intersection of North Oak and West Howard streets, where it once again slowed but did not stop for the stop sign. The vehicle turned into a parking lot of an apartment complex in the 400 block of North Oak. Officers called the location to dispatch. The driver, who officers identified as Buchanan, exited the vehicle and tried to enter his home. Officers were able to command Buchanan back to his vehicle, where he grabbed his vehicle information. A run through National Crime Information Center showed Buchanan as suspended. He was charged with eluding law enforcement and driving while suspended, and cited for careless driving and failure to obey a stop sign.
Buchanan was released on $1,000 bond.

Jacob Troy Eischeid, 23, of Waukee was charged with operating while intoxicated 4:09 a.m. Sunday at Union County Law Enforcement Center.
Eischeid was stopped for being left of the center line and having a brake light out on the vehicle he was operating. During the stop, officers could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage, and it got stronger as Eischeid spoke. Eischeid admitted he had been drinking, and said he had five beers. Eischeid consented to field sobriety testing, and showed signs of impairment. Eischeid consented to preliminary breath testing, with a result above .08, and consented to the Data master, with a result above .08.
Eischeid was released on $1,000 bond.
