Daughton, Arevalo on POI first team

Mount Ayr’s Daughton and Lenox’s Aurora Arevalo were the only two representatives from the western division of the Pride of Iowa Conference on the all-conference first team.

Daughton helped lead Mount Ayr to an improbable run through regional play, making it all the way to a regional final, where the Raiderettes eventually lost to Wayne.

The Mount Ayr senior shortstop hit .358 for the season with two doubles, 11 runs batted in and was a perfect 21-for-21 in stolen base attempts.

Arevalo, meanwhile, earned first team honors as a utility player.

The Lenox catcher hit .400 for the season with 11 doubles, one triple, five homers and drove in 31 runs. She also stole 15 bases in 18 attempts.

Arevalo threw out 32 percent of the runners who attempted to steal a base on her.

Unanimous selections to the first team were Shania Austin and Breanna Fortune of Wayne and Carlyn Stanley of Interstate 35.

Nodaway Valley, Mount Ayr and Southwest Valley each had two representatives on the second team, while Lenox and East Union were each represented by one player on the second team.

Josie Carter represented Nodaway Valley as an infielder, while Paige McElfish earned a second team nod at pitcher.

For Southwest Valley, Danica Sunderman earned a second team spot in the outfield, while senior Sydney Pontius was named to a second team utility spot.

Sophomore Kirsten Dolecheck picked up an outfield spot on the second team for Mount Ayr, while Tessa Shields was named to the second team as a pitcher.

Lenox junior Katie Dukes was named to the second team as an infielder and East Union junior Danielle Riley earned a second team spot at pitcher.
