Five area players named to all-district softball teams

The Iowa Girls Coaches Association announced its all-district teams for the 2014 softball season on Friday and five area players were honored on those teams.

Creston’s Haylee LaMasters highlighted the list, being named to the Class 4A West All-District team.

LaMasters led the Panthers with a .519 batting average, 20 doubles, one triple, six home runs and 48 RBI. She ranked second in the Hawkeye 10 in batting average, while leading the conference in doubles, home runs and RBI.

She also finished the season with a record of 18-8 in the pitching circle, with an earned run average of 2.53 in 146 2/3 innings. She struck out 114 batters and walked just 57.

In Class 1A, Murray had three all-district players in Kate Patton, Deena Snyder and McKenzie McIntosh.

Snyder led the Lady Mustangs with a batting average of .488 and hit eight doubles with two home runs and 28 RBI.

McIntosh led Murray with 3 RBI, hitting eight doubles with a batting average of .443. Patton hit .422 with nine doubles, four triples, five home runs and 29 RBI. She was also 21-for-21 in stolen base attempts.

Patton was 24-3 in the pitching circle with an earned run average of 1.61 in 148 innings pitched, striking out 165 batters compared to just 31 walks.

In addition to the three players receiving all-district honors, Murray head coach Danny Jensen was named Class 1A South Central District Coach of the Year, as Murray finished the year 24-3.

Lenox junior catcher Aurora Arevalo hit .400 for the season, earning the other all-district honor in Class 1A for the Creston News Advertiser coverage area.

Arevalo led Lenox in batting average, as well as in doubles (11), home runs (five) and RBI (31). Arevalo was 15-for-18 in stolen base attempts.

Other regional players receiving all-district honors included Clarke’s Libby Bemis and Kennedy Crees in Class 3A and Central Decatur’s Hallie Linhart in Class 2A.
