Krejci to leave SWCC

Southwestern Community College is losing another staff member.

Teresa Krejci, the college’s chief financial officer, is leaving the college. Her last day is Aug. 8.

Krejci accepted a position as associate vice president of finance at Drake University in Des Moines.

“My parents live in Des Moines. The kids are grown and gone, and Creston was a great place to raise a family, but now, with them gone, I want to be in the Des Moines area, and I think Drake University is a great place to be part of. When that opportunity came about, I decided to apply,” Krejci said.

The position of chief financial officer at Southwestern is available. Reviews for applicants will begin July 28, and run until the position is filled.

Until Krejci and her husband Bill, SWCC athletic director and athletic fundraiser, sell their house, Krejci will commute to Creston on weekends.

“He (Bill) is moving to Des Moines with me,” Krejci said. “Whether he is going to commute is up to him.”

Bill is currently in Mexico and was unavailable for comment.

Krejci said she is excited for the opportunity at Drake University.

“It’s a new adventure,” Krejci said. “Last year, I completed my master’s degree in higher education because I thought I wanted to look for a new adventure, a new opportunity, and I thought that would help. I kept my eye open to see what would be available. Then, I came across this opportunity and I decided to apply.”

But, Krejci also said she will miss the people in Creston.

“We’ve got so many friends around here, you just know everybody. So, obviously, I’m going to miss everybody I’ve worked with and been around for so long,” Krejci said. “It’s going to be different, and maybe a little scary, but also exciting at the same time.”
