Accident

William Ray Johnston, 21, 620 N. Poplar St., was cited for reckless driving after an accident 6:14 a.m. today at the intersection of South Maple and West Clark streets.

According to a Creston Police report, Johnston, driving a 2009 Mazda west on West Clark, slowed for the stop sign at the intersection, tried to turn south onto South Maple, lost control of the vehicle, went off the road into the yard of 106 W. Clark St., and struck a retaining wall. The vehicle rolled once before coming to rest on the wheels. Johnston then drove away from the scene to his residence, where he was located by officers. Johnston said he was emotional at the time and that he had been drinking previously that night. Johnston was tracked because both passenger tires on his vehicle were flat and the rims gouged the pavement to his residence, and the vehicle lost the license plate at the scene.

Damage estimate is $12,000 to Johnston’s vehicle.
