Creston

James Lund, 83, of Greenfield, formerly of the Creston and Aripse areas, died April 10, 2014, at his daughter’s home in Greenfield.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25. Chaplain Greg Friedrich will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery south of Creston. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Theodore J. Martens Post No. 1797, Creston VFW. Open visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.

James Douglas Lund, son of Genevieve May (Bell) and Marion James Lund, was born Dec. 26, 1930, in Glendale, Calif.

James graduated from Villisca High School.

On June 21, 1953, James married Janet Elizabeth Gass in Farragut.

James served in the United States Army from December 1953 until December 1955. He continued to serve in the Army Reserve.

James and Janet then made their home in the Shenandoah area, where Jim worked as a custodian for Shenandoah High School.

In 1965, they moved to Creston, where Jim managed Pester Derby Station. Jim also worked for Dielman’s Auto Parts, and after moving to Arispe in 1979, worked in sales for King’s Distributing.

Janet died in April 2001.

Jim then moved back to Creston and then Greenfield later in 2012.

James is survived by his sons, Douglas James Lund of Greenfield and Marion Wayne (wife Teresa) Lund of Bellville, Texas; daughters, Merlena Kay (husband Walter) Herbel of Fontanelle and Elizabeth Ann Lund (husband John Karl) of Greenfield; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 10 step-great-grandchildren, sister Verneita Noe of Los Banos, Calif.; and brother-in-law Duane Sterns of Ames.

In addition to his wife, James was preceded in death by his parents and sister Virginia Sterns.
