Alice Gardner Creston

Alice Gardner, 86, of Creston died April 12, 2014, at Creston Nursing and Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr. The Rev. Jim Morris will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr. Open visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday with family present 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Alice Deane (Waugh) Gardner, daughter of Alta (Miller) and Clifton Verne Waugh, was born Feb. 12, 1928, in Worth County, Mo.

On June 9, 1946, Alice married Glenn Gardner at the Methodist Church in Shenandoah.

Alice graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1947.

Alice and Glenn lived in Crete, Neb., Mount Ayr and Diagonal, before purchasing and moving to a farm near Arispe in 1959, where she was a homemaker and farm wife.

Alice was an active 4-H leader and member of Arispe Methodist Church and DAR Nancy McKay Harsh Chapter.

Alice is survived by her husband Glenn Gardner; children, Nancy (John) Kunze, Alan (Connie) Gardner, David (Sue) Gardner and Sharon Gardner; grandchildren, Julie Kvasnicka, Matt Gardner, Melissa McVeigh, Diana Kunze, Josh Kunze, Sara Gardner, Ellen Gardner and Ross Gardner; six great-grandchildren and many relatives and friends.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, son Stephen and brother Harold Verne.
